Researchers of CARE-C join the 2025 European Researchers Night

A group of researchers from CARE-C of the Cyprus Institute took part in the 2025 European Researchers Night held at the State Fair in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 26 September 2025.

The researchers designed an interactive quiz game that connects several European cities, each participating as a team. The quiz focuses on the outcomes of the OptimESM Horizon Europe project (https://optimesm-he.eu/), with questions centred on future climate change, particularly at the regional level. The goal is to promote knowledge exchange about cutting-edge climate research, highlight regional challenges, and empower participants—especially students—to develop their local adaptation plans.

On behalf of the Center, Research Scientist Dr George Zittis, Post-Doctoral Fellows Dr Pinelopi Loizou and Dr Maria Gavrouzou and Research Graduate Fellows Andreas Karpasitis and Aristotelis Liakakos, participated.

European Researchers’ Night is a science outreach event organised on the same date across Europe, creating a space for researchers to share their work with the public. Researchers are encouraged to emphasize interaction in their booth designs, thus engaging the public through presentations, experiments, games and discussions.

In Cyprus, the event is organised for the 19th year by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), and it was held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Christodoulides. It was attended by hundreds of researchers and entrepreneurs from universities, research organisations, centres of excellence and innovative companies from all over the country.
