An observation-based study from The Cyprus Institute’s Atmospheric and Climate Division investigated the century-long rainfall trends over the greater region of the Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Over parts of this water-stressed region, precipitation data revealed significant drying trends that are evident since the beginning of the twentieth century and are more or less extended to today. The identified profound discrepancies between several observational datasets highlight the scope of EMME-CARE and the need for establishing better environmental monitoring networks over MENA.
