CARE-C Scientists Participate in ICNAA-2025
Members of CARE-C at The Cyprus Institute actively participated in the 22nd International Conference on Nucleation and Atmospheric Aerosols (ICNAA), held at the University of Vienna from 24–29 August 2025.
The CARE-C staff included PhD student and graduate fellow Christos Xenofontos, Research Scientist Dr Vijay Kanawade and Assoc Prof Tuija Jokinen, who contributed to scientific sessions on aerosol science and technology. Their presentations highlighted ongoing advances in nucleation research and its implications for air quality and climate.
The conference featured a wide range of scientific discussions, including a panel titled “Do we need to darken the sun?”—a timely debate on solar radiation management and geoengineering. In addition, a special session celebrated the 70-year legacy of ICNAA, showcasing the historic evolution of the field and the conference series itself.
ICNAA 2025 also introduced sessions for Young Principal Investigators, providing a platform for early-career scientists to share innovative ideas in aerosol science and technology. Symbolically, a “conference tree” was planted on the University of Vienna campus to commemorate the event.
Additionally, Dr Vijay Kanawade’s tenure as a committee member of the Committee for Nucleation and Atmospheric Aerosols (CNAA) under the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS) was extended for the term 2025–2029, representing the Cyprus Institute’s role in global atmospheric research.
Participation in ICNAA-2025 provided CARE-C researchers with valuable opportunities to share their findings, strengthen collaborations with leading scientists worldwide, and engage with the latest developments in aerosol and environmental research.
