CARE-C Researchers Participate at the OneSTOP Datathon Workshop in Brussels
Researchers of CARE-C at the Cyprus Institute took part in the first OneSTOP Datathon workshop, held on 25-27 November 2025 in Brussels, Belgium.
The workshop brought together researchers from 8 European countries to discuss about invasive alien species and their threats to biodiversity. Organisers and participants delivered presentations on good practices, data management and optimisation. Case studies in Belgium, Cyprus, Portugal and Romania were also presented by experts updating national lists of introduced and invasive species. Panel discussions focused on data management, terminology and guidelines, as well as hands-on working sessions on cleaning, managing and enriching lists of introduced and invasive species.
Research Technical Scientist, Mr Iakovos Demetriou, and Research Affiliate, Dr Angeliki Martinou, attended on behalf of the Cyprus Institute. Mr Demetriou and Dr Martinou delivered a presentation on ‘Updating the national checklist for Cyprus’. You can read more about their most recent publication on the Cyprus Database of Alien Species here. Mr Demetriou, alongside Mr Evangelos Koutsoukos, Project Officer at the Enalia Physis Environmental Research Centre in Cyprus, further discussed and curated the National Checklist for Cyprus, up-to-date, holding more than 1,300 introduced taxa.
The event was held within the framework of the “OneBiosecurity Systems and Technology for People, Places and Pathways”- OneSTOP Horizon Project , co-financed by the European Union, of which the CyI is a partner.
