CARE-C researchers at the 1st Pancyprian Chemistry Conference

Researchers from CARE-C at the Cyprus Institute participated in the 1st Pancyprian Conference on Chemistry, held at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia from 19–21 November 2025.

Technical Research Specialist Dr. Rima Baalbaki delivered an oral presentation titled “The role of methanesulfonic acid in atmospheric aerosol formation,” while Associate Research Scientist Dr Michael Pikridas presented his work on “Primary sources of submicron organic aerosol in the Eastern Mediterranean: How and why they differ from the rest of Europe.” Graduate Research Fellow and PhD student Mr Mihai Ciabanu focused his presentation on the “Molecular characterization of low-volatility vapors in the atmosphere.”

The conference, organised by the Pancyprian Union of Chemists, brought together more than 250 academics, researchers, students, and professionals from private and public laboratories, as well as the education and research sectors, highlighting the central role of Chemistry in society and the economy.
