CARE-C Researchers at the EMS Annual Meeting 2025 in Ljubljana, Slovenia
Researchers from CARE-C at the Cyprus Institute participated in the European Meteorological Society (EMS) Annual Meeting, held on 7–12 September 2025 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
PhD students and graduate research fellows, Ms. Anna Tzyrkalli and Mr. Fragkeskos Kekkou, represented the Centre and presented their latest research during the Human Biometeorology session:
- “Evaluating temperature-mortality associations in Europe: A statistical analysis of long-term data on NUTS3-Level” by Anna Tzyrkalli (Session OSA2.4, Abstract EMS2025-25, oral presentation).
- “Assessing Seasonal Climate Forecasts to Predict Temperature-Related Mortality in Cyprus” by Fragkeskos Kekkou (Session OSA2.4, Abstract EMS2025-423, oral presentation).
In addition, the researchers contributed to the Weather and Well-being Workshop: Communicating Biometeorological Knowledge for Public Health – Part II for the second consecutive year. Anna Tzyrkalli shared updates on the group’s ongoing work with a presentation titled “Advancing Biometeorological Insights: Temperature Extremes, Thermal Indices, and Compound Stressors on Health in the Mediterranean.”
The workshop explored how biometeorological knowledge can be effectively communicated to diverse audiences, with the aim of making scientific insights more accessible and impactful for public health policies and protective measures.
