Research scientists at CARE-C of the Cyprus Institute participated in the 1st Annual Partner Meeting of the LC3– Limassol City Cooling Challenge project, which took place in Limassol and online on 28-29 May, 2024.

More specifically, research scientist Dr Jonilda Kushta presented the shared objectives and synergistic potential of the LC3 and LIFE Sirius projects. Additionally, Dr Kushta, in collaboration with the technical research specialists Angelos Violaris and Marios Christoforides, delivered a presentation focussing on available methodologies for calculating emission inventories at city level.

During the face-to-face meeting, 20 project representatives from the Limassol Municipality, the Cyprus Institute, the Cyprus University of Technology and Friends of the Earth participated.

Limassol is one of the fifty-three cities from across twenty-one European Union and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries, which have been invited to embark upon unprecedented climate action, through the NetZeroCities Pilot Cities Programme managed by the Mission Platform of the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities (EU Cities Mission).

Limassol through LC3 – Lemesos City Cooling Challenge – pilot  project, as part of the Pilot Cities, will experiment with new ways to decarbonise over the course of a two-year programme. Pilot Cities are setting the urban climate transition on a new trajectory. They will implement systemic and locally designed innovative actions that span multiple areas, from buildings to waste, and levers of change, including governance, finance, and policy.
