
CARE-C Contributes to Advancing Climate Goals at 7th Ajman International Forum for Sustainable Development
A delegation from the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C) of the Cyprus Institute participated in the 7th Ajman International Environment Conference on 6–7 May 2025, which took place in Ajman, UAE.
CARE-C Director, Professor Jean Sciare and PhD student and Graduate Research Fellow Anna Zenonos were invited speakers. Prof Sciare presented on “Towards a Better Understanding of Short-Lived Climate Pollutants in the Middle East”, highlighting the importance of regional data and cooperation in addressing air pollution and its effects on climate change. Graduate Research Fellow Anna Zenonos also presented her work on “Artificial Intelligence Powered Estimation of Tree Carbon Stock”, demonstrating innovative methods for tree counting and carbon stock estimation using state-of-art AI models.
The conference brought together thought leaders, decision-makers, researchers, and practitioners from various sectors to foster collaboration, exchange experiences, and review innovative solutions to achieve carbon neutrality and sustainability goals at the local and international levels.
CARE-C’s active engagement in this international forum reflects its significant contribution to addressing pressing environmental challenges across the Middle East and the wider EMME region.
