CARE-C’s Mihai Ciobanu inspired young students through “Researchers at Schools” initiative
PhD student and Graduate Research Fellow at CARE-C, Mihai Ciobanu, participated in the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation’s (RIF) initiative to raise awareness about climate change, sustainability, and science education. As part of the “Researchers at Schools” programme implemented under the Horizon Europe project MISSION POSSIBLE: Researchers on Board for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future, Mr Ciobanu visited Aglantzia D’ and Ayios Lazaros A’ elementary schools, on 29 and 30 April, 2025, respectively, to introduce young students to atmospheric research on the occasion of Earth Day.
Mr Ciobanu introduced students to climate science through interactive storytelling and hands-on experiments. Using simple demonstrations, he explained topics such as air pressure, sea-level rise, and cloud formation, sparking children’s curiosity and enthusiasm.
Students also explored human impacts on the climate through a mini version of the Climate Fresk card game and proposed their own solutions, from recycling to cycling, to help protect the planet.
Through initiatives like this, CARE-C reaffirms its commitment to science outreach and education, encouraging young people to take an active role in tackling climate change.
